Receptionists and secretaries in adult and vocational centres are often the first ones to answer inquiries, made either by phone or in person, from adults in search of information. Some of these adults can be nervous about returning to education, or not yet very fluent in English/French., as a result may not be able to explain themselves well. This workshop intends to give frontline staff the tools to better understand the needs of the adult learners so that they can refer them to the correct services. The day long workshop started with introduction of SARCA, and the characteristics of SARCA clients. Active Listening portion was animated by a Tel-Aide trainer. Tel-Aide is
a Montreal based free listening service where the phones are manned by volunteers. This part of the workshop was based on the lengthy training program that the volunteers go through.
